7D6N TAIPEI TRIP - DAY 2

DAY 2 of our Taipei Trip 15-21 June 2013.

Woke up at 7plus in the morning so that we can do more things with a longer day.
Started our day with breakfast from KFC, ordered their breakfast platter as it looks filling on the advertisement poster. lol. END up, the hashbrown is the biggest among all. LOL.

As per my planned itinerary, we are going to Tamsui today!

Took the MRT red line all the way up to Tamsui. The mrt ride took us around 45 minute, luckily there are seats to sit.. the journey feels like taking MRT from Joo Koon to Raffles place, maybe longer.

I actually wrote down the roads to follow to make our way to Tamsui Old Street, but i realised it redundant because when we are at Tamsui MRT station, all we have to do is to follow the crowd. haha.

When we reached Tamsui Old street, most of the shops are just preparing to open for business, so we just slowly walk a bit and buy some snacks to munch on while making our way to the ferry terminal

Still early but very crowded liao lo.

Fried Durian neh, tempted to try but too heaty liao!

Saw this stall, and of cos i buy one stick of Bird Egg to eat.!

Get myself a cup of chilled lime juice to prevent myself  from getting a heat stroke under the scorching sun.

Angry Smurf says the Lime Juice sucks. LOL

Saw in my guidebook that this shop selling traditional wedding cakes are a Must try, so bought one pineapple flavored one to eat. not bad not bad.

Along the ferry pier area, there are many ferry counters that sells tickets to different places like 八里 (Bali) and 渔人码头 (Fisherman's Wharf), i initially planned to go Bali as there's a water theme park there but since we are going to Leofoo Village, i decided to go to only Fisherman's Wharf instead.

Purchased our ticket from the ferry counter for Fisherman's Wharf, 120NT per ticket.
Different company's ferry departs at different pier, and their counter are usually located right in front of the pier the ferry departs from. There's no time stated on the ferry ticket so we can board anytime we want to as long as there's a ferry docked at the pier.

The Ferry ride takes around 10-15min to bring us to Fisherman Wharf.

YAY! reached Fisherman's Wharf liao, lucky Angry Smurf don have seasick this time round. haha

This photo is evidence of Angry Smurf throwing my lime juice away, i asked him to hold it for me, but he insist i wont wanna drink it at all so he threw it away secretly. LOL.

View of Lover's Bridge from the Pier

A fren once told me that couples whom cross the Lover's bridge will break up soon after the trip. I don believe it because i always feel that love and mutual trust is what make or break a relationship, not simply because you cross a cursed bridge.

很美 leh,可是要下雨了。

Uncle go where also must buy some Kopi to drink.

Crossing the Lover's Bridge to get to the other side of the Fisherman's Wharf.
The climb is tiring to me even though only few steps.... Especially worst when the weather is so hot even when its drizzling...

Stroller also can be photobomb.

View of the Pier from the Lover's Bridge.

All the fishing boats

Dark clouds pls go away for we have got no umbrella!

While reaching the other end of the Lover's Bridge, we heard some nice music, initially thinking it was the radio but its actually this young lad performing under the hot sun.

i didnt know that Taipei have Mounted Police Squads like UK.

More views of the Lover's Bridge and the famous LOVE sign.

Went into their convenience shop to get some drinks before exploring more.
They have Beers in 710 ML cans! hahaha! so tempted !

After enjoying the aircon inside the convenience shop, we went into a shop selling Souvenirs of Fisherman's Wharf.

Bought a postcard and mailed back home for ourselves (Until now nv recvd, i think Angry Smurf's mum tot its those advertisement brochures and throw away liao lo).

Rang this bell to pray for everlasting love!

To be honest, there's nothing at the other side of the Lover's Bridge except what is shown in the few pictures i took, so we decided to take the ferry back to Tamsui for shopping and snacks since it seems like its gonna rain anytime!

On the ferry back to Tamsui Pier, nothing to do so keep taking photos to distract Angry Smurf so he wun get seasick.!

Back at Tamsui, all the shops are opened, and the crowd is also here... Its super crowded, maybe because its a Sunday and the Taiwanese come here for some family time too.

Angry Smurf enjoying his Smelly beancurd...
Tried a few mouthful and its really nice despite its pungent smell.

Shopped alot of souvenirs at Tamsui, and i bought super alot of Sun Biscuits and Pineapple tarts and alot of goodies from this Red Sakura Shop opposite the temple towards the end of Tamsui Old Street. Must try their Pineapple Tarts! its real finger licking good!

Made our way to the 搜奇博物馆 (Something like Ripley's Believe it or not Musuem) located near the entrance of Tamsui Old street.

If i never remember wrongly, the entrance ticket cost around 200NT per person only.
Can give it a try as this musuem houses all the weird weird things the owner sourced over many years.
Its interesting.

After spending some time looking at all the weird and interesting stuffs inside 搜奇博物馆, we continued our shopping along Tamsui old Street.

After spending half of the day in Tamsui, we made our way to Shilin Night Market (士林夜市) for more snacks and shopping.

We took the Red line from Tamsui Station and alighted at Jiantan Station.
Shilin Night Market is located directly opposite Jiantan MRT (剑潭)station.
Opens daily from 5pm to 1am.
Everyone that goes to Taipei must visit Shilin Night Market.
However if i compare between Shilin and Raohe, i would still prefer Raohe even though it is smaller in scale as compared to Shilin.

Some of the popular street food Shilin has to offer are
  • Fried chicken Steak (炸雞排)
  • "Small bun wrapped in large bun" (大餅包小餅)
  • Fried buns (生煎包)
  • Peanut candy (花生糖)
  • Oyster omelet (蚵仔煎)
  • Tempura (甜不辣)
  • Lemon aiyu jelly (檸檬愛玉)
  • Pearl Milk tea (珍珠奶茶)
  • Stinky Tofu (臭豆腐)
  • Oyster Vermicelli (蚵仔麵線)

Other than just food, Shilin has many many shops selling clothes and souvenirs too.
As well as all the game stalls that one can spend hours at.

Along a side alley of Shilin hides this shop Shin Fa Ting Shaved Ice. (辛发亭)selling Shaved Ice, its a MUST TRY if you are there and you wont miss it as there's always a long queue outside the shop.

After a fruitful day spent in Tamsui old Street and Shilin, we took the MRT back to Ximending even though our legs are going on a strike to walk any further. haha.

The famous 西门红楼 was built in year 1908 and its one of the popular landmarks over at XiMenDing. The shops located inside 西门红楼 are mostly local designers wear. Around the street where 西门红楼 is located, there are actually many tents of shops selling clothes/bags they design on their own.

Ximending is always famous for the street performers honing theirs singing/performing skills along the streets.
Saw this 2 man singing in front of 豪大大鸡扒 shop and they are really good.

After a short walk along Ximending, we walked back to our hotel for the night. Our legs are really tired after a whole day of walking, walking and more walking.
